What Makes a Padel Legend?

Padel turned professional recently, but three decades of competition have already produced players with careers worthy of comparison to tennis or squash greats. This list weighs four dimensions: titles and tournament wins, time spent at or near world #1,career prize money earnings (Premier Padel era data where available), andlasting impact on how the game is played.

No ranking system perfectly captures legacy. Belasteguín dominated before prize money reached today's levels. Coello and Tapia play in a richer, more global sport. We adjusted for era differences throughout. Live earnings data from our database appears where available, giving objective financial context for each player's modern output.

How We Ranked Them

1. Titles and Major wins

World championships, WPT titles, and Premier Padel Majors carry the most weight. Winning consistently in high-stakes matches demonstrates superiority that rankings alone cannot capture.

2. Time at or near World #1

Sustained excellence matters more than a brief peak. A player who spent 5+ years in the top 3 ranks higher than someone who briefly reached #1 but lacked consistency across their career.

3. Career prize money

Modern earnings data from Premier Padel and FIP circuits provide an objective measure of current-era performance. Where available, we show live data from our database next to each player.

4. Impact on the sport

Some players changed how padel is played. Belasteguín redefined tactical consistency. Tapia made padel viral. Salazar and Marrero built women's professional padel from the ground up. Legacy matters.

Era adjustments were made to account for the fact that prize money in the World Padel Tour era (pre-2023) was significantly lower than in the current Premier Padel era. Players from the Belasteguín and Gutiérrez generation were evaluated primarily on titles, ranking tenure, and historical consensus rather than earnings data.

Key players: Galán, Lebrón, Navarro, Josemaría, Sánchez, Triay

2023-present

The Coello-Tapia Era
